Reliable Battery Life Estimates: No Surprises

Our user software uses an advanced algorithm to estimate the final battery life of our wildlife GPS tracking devices, considering several influencing factors for reliable projections to users.

One important thing we can instruct our customers about is temperature’s impact on battery life, because very cold temperatures can really affect how long the devices will operate on a set of batteries. Also, we explain the seemingly counterintuitive idea that decreasing the interval between GPS position attempts can actually increase, instead of decrease, battery life. In customer education, by providing such insights, users will be better equipped to make informed decisions when configuring their GPS schedules for wildlife tracking applications.

GPS Timeout -Estimator assumes worst case

To ensure transparency and accuracy in our estimations, our software adopts a worst-case scenario approach in two key ways. Firstly, in our calculations, we deliberately degrade the battery capacity indicated by the manufacturer. This ensures that the estimated battery life is not based on the assumption of a full battery, providing a more conservative and realistic projection. Furthermore, we factor in the maximum allowed duration for each GPS position in our battery life calculator, even though this scenario is unlikely to occur in real-world usage. By intentionally under promising and overdelivering, we prioritize customer satisfaction and guarantee that users will not encounter disappointments such as unexpectedly shortened battery life after setup.
