A Single Inquiry Triggered a New Product Line
More than ten years ago when a researcher from Washington State contacted us for GPS collars for Pygmy Rabbits, we had our doubts about whether or not it was going to work. With a product weight limited to just 15 grams, we knew that we would have to use a lithium polymer battery. The project was going to be done in the winter in Idaho. These batteries stop producing current about about -10°C because at that temperature, the current producing chemical reaction inside the battery stops taking place.
But the customer was confident that the warmth of the rabbit would provide sufficient heat to keep the battery warm. We pressed on and sure enough, she was correct! She became a repeat customer. The story continues and gets more interesting below the photo.
Fast forward 10 years, we get a call from a researcher at The University of Reno. She’s taking up a new Pygmy Rabbit project and she was with this very project 10 years prior. It made sense she called us.
Since the first project, we had made significant improvements to the product but we also had access to some other technology that would improve the GPS performance without increasing the product weight. We decided that the best way forward was to design an entirely new product line that incorporated all of the improvements. The Nano Enhanced was born.
